Dear Mission Specialists:
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to aid Brosden, Bella and Sofia in helping King Tutankhamun decide which type of rock he should use to build his next pyramid. Four different types of rock have been found and the king wants to build his pyramid out of the type of rock that he has the most of. King Tutankhamun has given this scroll to the kids with the following riddle:
I form after a volcanic eruption
2,220 of me have been found lying in the sun
After thousands of years of high temperatures and squeezing
I turned into 3,500 of these
Gradual weathering, both chemical and mechanical
Turned me into tiny bits of this by the ton
Pressing and pressing layer after layer
2,777 of me were in different form in the time of Socrates
Solve the riddle by identifying the four different types of rock that were found in the sands of Egypt. Then put the amount of each rock into a graph your team feels best displays the data for King Tutankhamun to make a wise decision.
You have until 12:30 p.m. today to finish. Challenges will then be held with others group members to safely negotiate tomb floors and interpret the graphs. At 12:45 you will be given a written test to assess your knowledge of graphing data.
If you’re successful, the king will allow the kids to return home. They are depending on you!
