Stuart's Spectacular Students

This is dedicated to my amazing students. The goal is for each and every one of them to feel unstoppable by the time they walk out of the classroom door for the final time in May. This chronicles their journey; their own Chronicles of Self-Actualization.

Tarringo's Poem ~ Miss Parks

Below are the comments between Tarringo and myself on the "We Can't Do It Alone" post:

You know Adam, I was just writing in some one's blog who pimped out the best poems he has read on MySpace, none of mine were on that list. In the past I would've questioned my own writing, then I realized it was just someone's opinion and everything that he listed were things that, well weren't about real life. And I wrote as a comment that as long as I can touch just one person with my writing, then I feel like I have achieved. This blog is a classic example of why you are a role model and proof that blogs don't have to be about the drama that they are about on here. There are people on here seeking quality and special people like yourself and Teri...so glad I've encountered you both.

I feel the same way - when I teach I want 2 reach ALL the students...when I write, I want 2 reach one person, even if that one is me......and it truly doesn't matter if 1000 people reject you, if your writing has been accepted by one soul who wouldn't have been reached otherwise.

You have done that for at least me and Raymond and several other students in the class. You're very special Tarringo. Whether or not the entire world sees that doesn't change this. Unfortunately, those that don't see it, are not changed for the better by you.

Fortunately, I saw it in Tarringo, and shared him with my students, who also saw it, and were bettered by him. Here's his poem and pictures of me reading it to the class. They captured a moment in time, when young hearts and minds were captured by the moment. Thank you T! We can't do alone........

Miss Parks

(his picture of her didn't transfer)

No! No! I will not give up my seat on this bus

My feet hurt so there's no more left to discuss

I've sat up many restless nights

As my people struggled for their civil rights

My eyes have seen too much torture

Cast upon those who share my same culture

I'm worn out and tired of being afraid

My bones ache of distraught and with that being said

No! No! I will not give up my seat on this bus

I want to enjoy this ride just the same and thus

You will no longer take advantage of my skin

Because in life that is the very sin

That thou shall not cast hate on another

For we are all created equal to each other

My old hands have felt too much defeat

On these storied barren streets

So no I won't give up my seat on this bus

My name is Rosa Parks, and I'm tired of making this fuss

hi mr.stuart it`s me luis the poem made me think about Rosa Park`s life and I`m guessing she was dreaming about freedom and she made it a reality and she became big but she had to make a sacrifice in her loife to make it a reality.

Hi Mr.Stuart it is me Courtney. I read the poem Rosa Parks and it made me feel sympathy for her because she did not give up her seat on the bus to a white person. She had lots of courage to do what was right and how it should have been. Wow! She was a brave peoson!!!!!! If that was me I don't think i would do that. I am glad I read the poem, Rosa Parks.

Hi Mr.Stuart this poem made me think that Rosa Parks was brave enough to not give up her seat to another person, and that she made a difference in the world. Also just because the color of her skin she had to give up her seat on the bus, she is the same as everyone inside, and anybody can do what she did.

Hi! This is sandria miller. People think that your skin color is who you are. As say your black so your mean and poor. People need to learn that before you go yelling at someone about what they need to do you need to ask them if they either want to do it or not.

As i was reading today I wonderd...
along time ago when people stood out side outside they protested about the laws. Right?? My question is now why did the police men go to kill, arrest, and fight people fighting for there freedom??

Hi Mr. Stuart! This is Flo and this poem that Tarringo wrote was very interesting because on H.O.P, I was Rosa Parks. This poem was helpfull to me because it has much information about Rosa and it also explains that if you are any kind of color you can make changes in life. This poem was very exciting to read because it gives a spot in your mind to think about. Any kind of color people can sit anywhere they want in the buss. (Except the drivers seat).

    Loved this poem ,

    Mr.Stuart
I think you are tring to say that you aren't tring to write to get famous but are writting to express yourself so you don't care if the whole word sees your blog you are just doing it for your own expressions or what you need to let out. Also you want to spread confidence throught the world with the Rosa Parks poem you want people to feel good so are also tring to buid confidence throught the world just like you everyday in the class room by making sure we reach our goals and reach for the stars so you try to tell the whole world and our class to dream big, do big, and be big. Thanks for believeing in us and having big big hopes for us all through the intire school year. From, Kelly Gomez

When I read the poem I felt that everybody should have rights and should not have 2 give up your bus seat when you were sitting at it in the first place. Rosa Parks is a very brave lady and I am inspired by how she stood up 2 the white man and refused 2 move. Mr. Stuart and Tarringo both like 2 write poetry and express their feelings about certain people and events.

    Mr. Stuart,
I think that dodinsky is tring to tell you that he doesn't write to be famous or to get noticed but he writes to express his feelings to let ouy his emotions. But he also wants to help people but doesn't expect to help the world but just be excited by helping one person. So what I'm tring to say is to reach is to reach only one not to impress the world. The Rosa Parks poem is tring to express how she thinks she should be treated she is telling the world that her freedom should should be equall to everyone else in the rest of the world so she shouldn't be treated differently. She is telling the world that she is an equall. She is showing her confidence by being confident by standing up for herself and definding her equall rights. She is a strong woman and an awesome roll model and great influance on kids just like you. Thanks for giving us an awesome year so far I can't wait for the rest of the year. From: Kelly Gomez

    Mr. Stuart,
I realized that Rosa Parks in the poem also relates to the Civil War and that just like she has seen to many people having their Civil Rights taken away from them she will not allow it to happen to her because she has had her feet to much to just stand up and make them feel even worse. She is am independant woman that doesn't sand for unfair treatment to herself and to others. So she stayed through to that and didn't give up her seat on the bus and just like many other people admire her for that so do I. Also Tarringo is absolutly thrilled to just be reaching and getting through or inspiring only one person and pretty soon that one will be one million but small things grow big. So just by getting energy off of that one person will keep him going to the very top his energy will last throught the bag times and will build up during the good but he will not give up no matter how challanging it is to inspire the human mind he will get through to them because just like you he has a dream to be big and now he has reached eveyone in our class occurding to the comments so he has done big and is doing/being bighis life is worth living he is not limited anymore he has broken through and can do anything. Now that he has people believeing in him and now that he has done big he is great no better he is awesome!!!!!

Today for HW, Katie didn't know what to do for writing. So I told her to write a short story. This is definetly NOT her favorite thing to do, but I said that this was one of her weaker areas (she can sit for hours with only one sentence to show for it) and she needed to work on. I suggested using a simple prompt about the dog. She thought about it, but she couldn't really see the possibilty in it. So I gave her another prompt about how she is shrunken down to the size of a hamster, and then is mistaken for one. She then became quite excited, and got to work right away. With Katie, it's this:You have to connect what she is working on to something she is exciyed about, so she can be excited with her work. Just thought this might help a bit.
